Dysthymia, also called persistent depressive disorder, is a milder yet long-lasting form of depression, according to Harvard Health. The main symptom of persistent depressive disorder is a long-lasting low or sad mood. An individual with persistent depressive disorder may feel less pleasure and a lack of energy, Harvard Health reported. The person may sleep too much or have trouble sleeping.
