HELLP syndrome is a rare pregnancy complication that mainly affects a person's blood and liver. It usually occurs during third trimester of pregnancy, but can occur anytime in second half of pregnancy (from 20 weeks onwards). HELLP stands for - H (Hemolysis: breaking down of red blood cells); EL (Elevated liver enzymes) and LP (Low platelet count)
