Israel launched a military offensive targeting nuclear and military sites in Iran as part of Operation Rising Lion. Under the operation's first phase, aerial strikes were conducted to cripple Iran's developing nuclear weapons programme, including Natanz enrichment site. Israel said the operation was necessary for its survival as Iran had accumulated enough uranium to produce nine nuclear bombs.
