India is planning to build its biggest dam in Arunachal Pradesh to reduce the potential impacts of a massive dam being built by China on the border. Indian officials have held meetings to accelerate construction of Upper Siang Dam with 14-billion cubic metre (BCM) storage capacity, Reuters reported. Arunachal residents have opposed the 11.2-Gigawatt hydropower project due to flooding fears.
