The Jodhpur jail where activist Sonam Wangchuk is lodged dates back to British era. It has lodged high-profile people like actor Salman Khan, who was convicted in 1998 blackbuck poaching case and rape-accused self-proclaimed godman Asaram Bapu. The jail was struck during 1965 war with Pakistan, in which over 30 people inside prison had died. Presently, it houses 1,400 prisoners.
