Leptospirosis is transmitted from infected animals through their urine, either directly or through infected soil or water. Without treatment, leptospirosis in people can lead to kidney damage, meningitis (inflammation of the membrane around the brain and spinal cord), liver failure, trouble breathing, and even death. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has been diagnosed with leptospirosis.
