Medical clowning is a therapeutic practice in which trained performers, known as clown doctors, use humour, empathy, and play to mitigate pain and reduce anxiety in patients, especially children, in hospitals and similar spaces. Originating in the 1980s in the US, it has since spread globally, including India. Studies have proven the effectiveness of medical clowning in healthcare.
