The US is witnessing a sharp rise in cases of so-called nightmare bacteria, a dangerous superbug resistant to nearly all antibiotics. Known scientifically as Carbapenem-Resistant Enterobacteriaceae, these bacteria are difficult to treat and linked to hospital infections. Health experts warn that infections caused by CRE can spread quickly, cause severe illness, and have high mortality rates.
