As per the Cleveland Clinic, a nocturnal (night) panic attack is a sudden feeling of fear that wakes a person from sleep. The person wakes up in a state of panic, experiencing physical reactions like a racing heart rate, sweating, difficulty breathing (gasping for air), shaking and chills. The symptoms usually peak in less than 10 minutes and then subside.
