Sleep banking is a proactive strategy wherein a person gets extra hours of sleep in order to prepare for times when they won't be able to get enough sleep. A 2023 study involving 23 internal medicine residents, set to transition to night shift, showed that those who slept more on days prior (sleep banking) were able to perform more effectively.
