Thailand and Cambodia have fought over sovereignty at various undemarcated points along their 817 km border. The border was first mapped by France in 1907. In 2000, both nations established a Joint Border Commission. In 2008, tension rose after Cambodia tried to get the temple Preah Vihear, also called Khao Phra Viharn in Thailand, listed as a UNESCO heritage site.
