Vampire energy or phantom energy is the amount of standby power that an electrical appliance consumes when it is plugged in but not in use. These include appliances that usually have a remote control, standby indicator light or built-in clock. Items that require chargers, like phones, can also consume vampire energy when plugged in despite being fully charged.
