Pope Leo XIV declared Indian Bishop Matthew Makil as a 'Venerable'. In Church procedures, three steps precede being declared a saint. A deceased person recognised by Pope as having lived a heroically virtuous life is given title of 'Venerable'. One miracle performed by a Venerable makes them 'Blessed', while a second miracle makes them eligible to be declared a 'Saint'.
