Diethylene Glycol (DEG) chemical found in the 'Coldrif' cough syrup that killed at least 11 children in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, is a highly toxic chemical. DEG is used as an industrial solvent in paints, dyes and plastics and is not meant for use in medicines. It can lead to kidney failure, liver failure and death if consumed.
