WhatsApp banned over 97 lakh accounts in India in February, of which around 14 lakh accounts were banned proactively, before any reports from users. In its monthly report, WhatsApp said it received 17,649 grievance reports in the month and took action on 427 accounts. An account is ‘actioned’ when an account is banned or a previously banned account is restored.
