WhatsApp is preparing to roll out third-party chats in the EU, allowing users to message people on other apps under the Digital Markets Act. The opt-in feature will support one-to-one chats with text, media, voice notes, and files, while group messaging arrives later. Only apps meeting WhatsApp's encryption standards, starting with BirdyChat and Haiket, can interoperate.
