Valiant Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj made significant contribution to preservation and development of Hindu temples. During his reign, many temples located in present day Maharashtra were restored and maintained. These include Tulja Bhavani Temple, Bhimashankar temple, Grishneshwar temple, Vitthal Rukmini Temple, Shivneri Fort temple and Jagdishwar Temple (Raigad Fort) among others.
