Justice Surya Kant, who is likely to succeed CJI BR Gavai as the next Chief Justice of India, has served as the Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court. Justice Kant was part of the five-judge constitution bench that upheld the abrogation of Article 370 in 2023. He also served as judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
