Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, whose coalition, the National People's Power (NPP), secured a victory in snap general polls, is the country's first president from a third party. Anura has had Marxist leanings and has been vocal critic of Sri Lanka's economic policies. In 2004, he was appointed cabinet minister and handled portfolios like agriculture, livestock and irrigation.
