Trinidad and Tobago's Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, whom PM Narendra Modi called 'Bihar ki beti (daughter of Bihar)', is the first woman PM of the Caribbean nation. Her great-grandfather was an indentured labourer from Bihar's Bhelupur village and had migrated to Trinidad in 1880s as part of the Girmitiya labour migration. In 2012, she visited her ancestral village in Bihar.
