Udit Pradhan, now suspended, was the President of the Odisha unit of the National Students' Union of India (NSUI), the student wing of Congress party. He was arrested for allegedly raping a 19-year-old student in a hotel in Bhubaneswar. Pradhan had also been a prominent advocate for women's rights, participating in protests and speaking out against violence against women.
