The first-ever Budget in India was presented on April 7, 1860, during the British rule. It was tabled by James Wilson, a member of the British Parliament and the Finance Member of the Indian Council. Notably, Wilson was responsible for introducing the concept of income tax in India. Wilson was the founder of 'The Economist' magazine.
