Air pollution in Mumbai worsened since monsoon's withdrawal on October 10, with several areas recording AQI levels above 200. National Institute of Atmospheric Sciences (NIAS) chair professor Gufran Beig linked this to La Niña effect, which cools Pacific Ocean's temperatures and alters wind patterns. He said for coastal cities like Mumbai, La Niña slows wind speed, causing AQI to deteriorate.
