According to RBI regulations, a signature is necessary only on the backside of bearer cheques, News18 reported. Since they don't mention a payee’s name, the bank cannot confirm if the bearer of the cheque received it legitimately or stole it. Signing assures the bank that the cheque reached the rightful recipient, and they create an official record of the transaction.
