Over 16,000 plant species have naturalised beyond their native habitats, mostly since the 1950s due to human activity. Research from the University of Konstanz shows that European plants that dominate locally - tall, adaptable, nutrient-loving generalists - are most likely to succeed abroad. Monitoring native plant dynamics can help predict and manage potential invasions in foreign ecosystems.
