Israel attacked Syria after the latter condemned Israel's incursion into the country's south and demanded its withdrawal. Israel said it won't tolerate presence of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), a former al-Qaeda affiliate, in southern Syria and demanded the territory be demilitarised. Israel has in the past carried out airstrikes in Syria to prevent weaponry from falling into "hands of extremists".
