When we act against our beliefs or values, we often feel uneasy or mentally unsettled—a psychological state known as cognitive dissonance. Psychologist Dr Vishwa Dave explains that this discomfort pushes the mind to restore balance by either changing our actions, adjusting our values, or justifying the behavior. Our mind keeps trying to justify the action until equilibrium is reached.
