Why does blood pressure fall after a person stands up?
short by Dharini Mudgal / on 29 Jun 2025,Sunday
When standing from sitting/lying position, gravity causes blood to pool in legs. Blood pressure drops because there's less blood flowing back to heart and brain, as per Harvard Health. Usually, special receptors sense lower BP, signalling heart to beat faster and temporarily raising it. However, with age, receptors can become less responsive and interrupt process of dealing with low BP.
