Russia fined Google $2.5 decillion, more than the world's GDP, claiming that it violated national broadcasting rules by barring Russia-backed channels on YouTube. In 2022 amid the Russian invasion of Ukraine, YouTube banned several Russian channels, including RT and Sputnik, saying they violated its policies that prohibit material that trivialises violent events. YouTube removed 1,000 channels.
