Choti Diwali is celebrated a day before Diwali to commemorate the victory of Lord Krishna over the demon Narakasura. The Lord's wife, Satyabhama, had dealt the final blow to kill the demon, according to Hindu mythology. In many homes, a diya is also lit for Yamraj on the night before Diwali as a sacred offering.
