Why is dematerialisation mandatory?
short by / on 26 Jun 2025,Thursday
Dematerialisation has been mandatory for listed companies since April 2019—physical shares can't be sold or transferred without converting to Demat. SEBI also mandates promoters and KMPs to hold shares in Demat before an IPO. Now, most private companies must dematerialise shares too, boosting transparency, curbing fraud, and aligning with modern compliance norms.
