Head and neck cancer is no longer exclusively linked to tobacco and alcohol use. While these remain significant risk factors, other factors like HPV infection, poor oral hygiene, and even genetic predispositions are increasingly recognised as contributing to the development of these cancers. Unlike oral cancers caused by tobacco or alcohol, HPV-associated cancers do not cause lesions in the mouth.
