FSSAI recommends defrosting and cleaning the fridge every two weeks during the monsoon to ensure food safety and hygiene. Heightened humidity during monsoon leads to moisture accumulation inside the fridge, which can create an ideal environment for bacterial and fungal growth, said Dr Narendra Singhla from Delhi's CK Birla Hospital. These pathogens can contaminate stored food, Dr Singhla added.
