The logo of the half-eaten apple was designed by Rob Janoff in 1977. According to him, the bite was included to give it a sense of scale and to ensure that people don't confuse it with a cherry or tomato or any other fruit. The logo has undergone minor modifications over the years. However, the bitten apple remained a constant.
