Venus is Earth-sized, rocky, and geologically similar, but suffocated by CO2, with surface pressures 90 times Earth's and temperatures that melt lead. Though formed alike, Venus lost oceans that absorb gases, halting subduction. Massive volcanic eruptions released CO2 unchecked, triggering a runaway greenhouse effect. Scientists believe all such planets, including Earth might end up like Venus.
