The Sports Ministry announced that only athletes ranked in top 6 and teams ranked in top 8 in Asia will be allowed to compete in the 2026 Asian Games. This makes Indian football team's participation unlikely, as it is currently ranked 24th in Asia. Only those with a "real chance of winning medals" will be considered, it said.
