A research in Frontiers in Microbiology found that pollen gathered by honeybees contains antimicrobial-producing bacteria that protect the hive against disease. Symbiotic bacteria called Streptomyces produce compounds that can fight deadly bee pathogens. "In future, treating bee diseases can be done by introducing right beneficial bacteria into hives to control specific pathogens," the study said.
