India's Shubhanshu Shukla and his Axiom-4 crewmates began a 22.5-hour journey back to Earth. The spacecraft must first perform engine burns to safely distance itself from ISS. This prevents risk of collision and initiates "free flight" during which it orbits Earth independently for several hours. The spacecraft must wait for right orbital position of Earth to ensure a safe landing.
