Total lunar eclipse will turn Moon blood red on the night of September 7-8. During this time, Earth will cast its shadow on Moon. The red colour is caused by a phenomenon called Rayleigh scattering, where Earth's atmosphere bends the sunlight and scatters shorter blue wavelengths. Totality will last 82 minutes, making it one of the longest in recent times.
