Madras High Court ruled that a wife doesn't need her husband's permission and signature to apply for a passport. The HC noted that insisting on getting husband's permission is an instance of "male supremacism". It was hearing a petition filed by a woman who sought directions to passport authorities to issue her a fresh passport without her estranged husband's signature.
