In Kolkata’s Kumartuli, a few trailblazing women like China Pal, Namita Pal, Shibani Pal, and Shipra Ghodui are breaking gender barriers in Durga idol sculpting. Though still a male-dominated craft, these women bring fresh artistic vision, reshaping tradition and marking a progressive stride in the age-old art of making magnificent Durga idols.
