A study from the University of Maine, USA, highlights a mushroom-based coating that could one day replace plastic wraps and synthetic cup linings. The scientists checked and found edible mushrooms and processed wood fibres could work together to form a protective coating. They wanted to create something safe for food and powerful enough to block water, oil and grease.
