On CM Yogi's directive, UP has rolled out the Modernisation of Command Area Development (MCAD) scheme to modernise irrigation and reduce farmers’ dependence on outdated canal systems. The Centre has approved ₹1,600 crore for the scheme, which will start as a pilot in selected districts, with IIT Kanpur offering technical support.
