Marking 50 years of the Emergency, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar said, "Very thoughtfully, the government of the day decided that this day would be celebrated as 'Samvidhan Hatya Diwas'." He added, "Young people can't forget...or afford not to learn about that darkest period (Emergency)." He further said the observance is a reminder to ensure such an event never happens again.
