A temple in Kanpur dedicated to the demon king Ravana opens only once a year on Vijayadashami. Devotees offer prayers at the temple from 6 am to 8:30 pm, just before the effigies of Ravana are burned in the evening. "Devotees light mustard oil diya here and women offer torai flowers (ridge gourd) for marital blessings," a priest said.
