The Islamic State (IS) has claimed responsibility for the killing of a Chinese mine worker in Afghanistan's northern Takhar province. The deceased, Li, was travelling to the Dasht-e-Qala district with a translator, who was unharmed in the attack. China's Foreign Ministry said it was "deeply shocked" by the attack, calling on Afghan authorities to thoroughly investigate the incident.
