Amid a row over the Marathi language, Maharashtra government on Friday announced that October 3 will be celebrated as 'Classical Marathi Language Day' every year. The government stated that October 3 to 9 will be observed as 'Classical Marathi Language Week'. This decision comes after the Centre granted "classical language" status to five languages last year, including Marathi.
