Astronomers have spotted Y1, a galaxy that existed just 800 million years after Big Bang, producing stars at 180 times the Milky Way's current rate. ALMA's precise Band 9 readings captured radiation from its dense dust and found that it warmed to around -180°C, hotter than in comparable early systems. Researchers say such rapid starburst episodes likely faded swiftly afterwards.
