Altogether 43 people drowned and three others went missing while taking holy dip in rivers and ponds across 15 districts of Bihar during Jitiya festival. Among those killed were 37 children. Notably, women observe fast for the well-being of their children during Jitiya. The state government has announced an ex-gratia of ₹4 lakh each for the families of the deceased.
