Maharashtra cabinet requested the Central government to increase the income limit to qualify for the 'non-creamy layer' among OBCs to ₹15 lakh per year from the current ₹8 lakh. The decision comes ahead of Assembly elections in the state, which are scheduled for this year. A non-creamy layer certificate is needed to avail reservation benefits in the OBC category.
